The politics of Chile
3 organisations recorded · six axes · every score sourced
Each organisation below is located on six independent measurements rather than a single left-to-right line: who owns productive assets, how social life should be ordered, how power is organised, at what level decisions are taken, who counts as a member, and by what means change is pursued.
What Chile argues about
Contested, live, or settled
The settled axis is usually more revealing than the contested one, and it is the one foreign coverage never reports — because a question nobody argues about generates no copy. A market where ownership is settled and membership is contested carries entirely different risks from one where the reverse is true, and both look identical in a headline.
| Axis | Range | Span | State | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EC · Economic organisation | −06 to +09 | 15 | Contested | This is what elections here are fought over. |
| AU · Organisation of power | −04 to +10 | 14 | Contested | This is what elections here are fought over. |
| CU · Social and cultural order | −05 to +08 | 13 | Contested | This is what elections here are fought over. |
| ID · Rule of membership | −06 to +05 | 11 | Contested | This is what elections here are fought over. |
| CH · Method and tempo | −04 to +04 | 8 | Live | Real variation, but not the main dividing line. |
| SC · Scale of decision | +02 to +07 | 5 | Live | Real variation, but not the main dividing line. |
What the shape implies
Offered as an input to a judgement rather than as one. A coordinate describes a stated position and a governing record; it does not forecast, and competence and circumstance are not on any axis.
- Ownership is contested. A change of government can move tax, ownership and the terms on which private capital operates. Exposure here is direct.
- The organisation of power is contested. The rules themselves are in play, which makes contract enforcement, regulatory predictability and the durability of any concession the live question rather than policy content.
- Membership or social order is contested. Expect volatility in workforce, licensing and public-facing exposure rather than in fiscal terms. Reputational risk here is higher than balance-sheet risk.
How far to trust this page
| Organisations recorded | 3 — a thin sample. Ranges from fewer than five organisations describe the sample rather than the country. |
| Coded at high confidence | 1 of 3 |
| Coded at low confidence | 1 — recent, still moving, or thinly documented |
| Flagged contested | 0 |
The widest recorded disagreement here is on economic organisation, spanning 15 points. The narrowest is on scale of decision, at 5. Where a country's politics is narrow on an axis, that question is settled and is not what its elections are about — which is usually invisible from outside, because foreign coverage reports the loud axis rather than the contested one.
Each bar shows the range that country's recorded organisations span on that axis, from −10 to +10. What each score means →
