Strongest case for the claim
State corporations dominated steel, electricity, transport, oil and armaments. Job reservation statutes reserved skilled work by race, the labour market was comprehensively planned, and the state directed capital allocation on a scale unusual for a Western-aligned economy. Some libertarian writers describe it as racial socialism.
Strongest case against
Private ownership, profit and capital markets were untouched and the mining houses were among the largest private firms on earth. The state sector existed to serve white employment and strategic autarky under sanctions, not to abolish private ownership. Socialism is defined by ownership.
