Distance is measured across six independent axes, each running from −10 to +10, out of a maximum separation of 49.0. How the scoring works →

Strongest case for the claim

They support carbon pricing, extensive regulation, large public investment programmes, redistribution and limits on private resource use, and they reject growth as a policy objective. Many were founded by people from the new left.

Strongest case against

Green party programmes work through regulated markets, carbon pricing and public investment rather than through public ownership. The 2001 Global Greens Charter commits to markets constrained by ecological limits, not to their abolition. Green parties have governed in coalition with market-liberal parties across Europe.

What the coordinates show. The Global Greens score −05 on economics — the same as Nordic social democracy and three points right of Die Linke. Where they are genuinely extreme is culture at −09 and authority at −06. This is the party family whose position is least well described by any economic measure, which is precisely why they needed a second axis to become visible at all.

Both cases are stated because the atlas does not settle arguments by assertion. Where the underlying dispute is conceptual rather than factual, that is said plainly rather than resolved.
