It supports subsidised health insurance, large climate and industrial subsidy programmes, higher taxes on high earners, expanded regulation and public sector union rights. On the American spectrum these are the most redistributive positions available.
Strongest case against
It proposes no transfer of ownership of any productive asset. The Affordable Care Act works through subsidised private insurers and the Inflation Reduction Act through tax credits to private firms. Socialism is defined by ownership, not by tax rates.
What the coordinates show. The Democratic Party scores −03 on economics. Nordic social democracy, which is itself not socialist by the ownership test, scores −05. Actual socialised economies score −08 to −10. The distance from the Democrats to the Bolsheviks is 20.0 out of 49.0 — which is almost exactly the distance from the Democrats to the Republicans, but composed of completely different axes.
