Is Milei a fascist? Are libertarians the hard right? Measured
“Milei is a fascist" / "libertarians are just the hard right.”
Measured against La Libertad Avanza and Italian Fascism
Distance is measured across six independent axes, each running from −10 to +10, out of a maximum separation of 49.0. How the scoring works →
Strongest case for the claim
Milei governs substantially by decree with a legislative minority, uses aggressively confrontational language about opponents and the press, and is culturally conservative on abortion and gender policy. Libertarian parties frequently ally with conservative ones in practice.
Strongest case against
Fascism is corporatist and statist by construction: it subordinates the market to national purpose. Milei proposes to abolish the central bank, dollarise, and eliminate most of the state. On economics the two are nine points apart, and on centralisation nine points apart in the opposite direction from the one the claim implies. Minarchist libertarianism sits at the extreme anti-concentration end of the authority axis, which is the defining fascist axis inverted.
What the coordinates show. The libertarian and fascist coordinates are close on nothing except, in some governing cases, the executive method. Treating "right" as one thing merges a doctrine that wants to abolish the state with one that wants to absorb society into it.
Axis by axis
A single distance figure is a headline. Which axes carry the gap is the story, and it is usually what the claim is really about.
| Axis | Milei | PNF | Gap | Reading | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EC · Economic organisation | +10 | +01 | 9 | Diverges | Carries the disagreement. Any claim that these two are alike has to explain this. |
| CU · Social and cultural order | +06 | +08 | 2 | Agrees | Effectively the same position. Not what an argument between them is about. |
| AU · Organisation of power | +04 | +09 | 5 | Differs | Real difference, but not the dividing line. |
| SC · Scale of decision | 00 | +09 | 9 | Diverges | Carries the disagreement. Any claim that these two are alike has to explain this. |
| ID · Rule of membership | +03 | +07 | 4 | Differs | Real difference, but not the dividing line. |
| CH · Method and tempo | +03 | +07 | 4 | Differs | Real difference, but not the dividing line. |
The evidence, so you need not take our word for it
Every score above carries a rationale and at least one artefact a third party can check. These are the cells that matter most to this claim.

What this does not settle
Where the disagreement is about which features define a word, no coordinate system resolves it. Two people with these figures in front of them can disagree indefinitely and both be reasoning correctly. What the measurement does is narrow the argument to what the word should mean, which is smaller than settling it and more than nothing.
This page states both cases because the atlas is not in the business of settling arguments by assertion. Where the underlying dispute is conceptual rather than factual, that is said plainly rather than resolved.
