Strongest case for the claim
Islamist movements are socially traditionalist at or near the ceiling, define political membership confessionally, and have repeatedly suppressed left and secular organisations. On culture and membership they occupy the same coordinates as the European far right.
Strongest case against
On economics they scatter across the axis: the Muslim Brotherhood scores −01, Khomeinism −03, Hezbollah −03, the Taliban +03, Ennahda +03, the AKP +04. Several run large welfare and clinic networks and derive their base from that. There is no shared economic position to make right-wing in the economic sense.
What the coordinates show. The family spans thirteen points on economics and is tightly clustered on culture and membership. That is the profile of a movement organised around an axis the left–right line does not measure. Calling it far right imports an economic claim that the evidence does not support in either direction.
